    Eċċellenza Monsinjur Cremona,
Huwa ta’ privileġġ kbir għalija li nesprimi dak li nħoss li hemm fil-qalb ta’ kull membru tad-Djoċesi u tal-poplu Malti f’dan il-mument hekk diffiċli għalina, fejn personalment għidtilna li l-Papa Franġisku laqa’ t-talba tiegħek biex jagħżel lil ħaddieħor ħalli jmexxi l-Arċidjoċesi tagħna. Grazzi tax-xhieda sabiħa tiegħek ta’ tjubija u ta’ ħlewwa mżweqin b’umiltà sinċiera. It-tbissima li dejjem kellek fuq fommok turi li inti għandek qalbek mimlija bl-imħabba għal kulħadd. Inti kont għalina u tibqa’ xbieha sabiħa tar-ragħaj it-tajjeb li lest li jagħti ħajtu għan-nagħaġ tiegħu.
Għallimtna napprezzaw il-figura sabiħa ta’ San Ġwanni XXIII li l-poplu ta’ Alla kien isejjaħlu ‘Il Papa buono’, u bir-raġun, għax kien tassew tajjeb u twajjeb.  Fik għarafna ‘Il Vescovo buono’ (L-Isqof twajjeb), ragħaj qrib il-poplu ta’ Alla, qrib it-tbatija tiegħu, qrib il-ferħ tiegħu; u ta’ dan kollu nirringrazzjawk.
Dort kważi l-parroċċi kollha ta’ Malta fil-Viżti Pastorali, u kull fejn mort ġejt milqugħ b’ferħ kbir bħal missier minn uliedu maħbubin. Il-preżenza tiegħek kienet ta’ faraġ u kuraġġ għall-ħafna nies, u bla għadd kienu dawk li reġgħu lura lejn Alla permezz tiegħek, għax fik raw il-bniedem t’Alla, li ma jfittex xejn ħlief il-ġid tal-poplu afdat lilu. B’hekk, Isqof twajjeb, int dħalt fi qlub il-Maltin li wrew solidarjetà kbira miegħek f’dawn il-ġranet, u naf biċ-ċert li ser tibqa’ fil-qalb tal-poplu tagħna. Inti wrejt ix-xewqa li tibqa’ qrib il-poplu u tkompli taqdih sakemm tippermettilek saħħtek. Ta’ dan ukoll nirringrazzjawk minn qalbna.
Nammirawk għall-kuraġġ li dejjem urejt f’sitwazzjonijiet diffiċli, u li għaraft tbati fis-skiet għall-ġid tal-Knisja. Bid-dedikazzjoni sħiħa tiegħek, għażiż missier, seħħlek iġġib ferħ kbir f’tant familji, f’tant żgħażagħ, f’tant anzjani u morda. Seħħek tkun il-pont li jgħaqqad il-bnedmin ma’ Alla u li jseddaq l-għaqda fil-poplu tagħna. Nawgurawlek ħajja twila biex  nibqgħu ngawdu l-frott ta’ dan id-don kbir ta’ għerf u ta’ tjubija li wriena fik il-Mulej. Filwaqt li nwiegħduk it-talb tagħna, nirringrazzjawk minn qalbna u nitolbuk tberikna.

    English Translation:

    The Good Bishop

    Your Excellency Mons Cremona,
It is a great privilege for me to express what I feel is in the heart of each and every member of the Diocese and the people of Malta at this difficult moment when, in person, you announced that Pope Francis has accepted your request to appoint a new Archbishop for our Archdiocese. Thanks for your lovely witness of goodness of heart and affability, laced with a humble sincerity.  The smile you always had is a sign that your heart is full of love for one and all.  You have been for us, and you will remain, a beautiful image of the good shepherd, ready to lay down his life for his sheep.
You have taught us to appreciate the beautiful figure of St John XXIII, whom God’s people referred to as ‘The Good Pope’ – and rightly so, because he really was good and docile. We have acknowledged you as ‘The Good Bishop’, a shepherd who has always been in close proximity to God’s people, close to their suffering, their joys; for all of this, we thank you.
You called on nearly all the parishes in Malta during the Pastoral Visits, and on every occasion, you were welcomed with great joy, as a father is welcomed by his beloved children. Your presence has served as a means of comfort and encouragement for several people, and through you, an innumerable amount of people turned once again to God, because they could see in you a man of God, who seeks nothing except the good of those who have been entrusted to him.  In this manner, Good Bishop, you have penetrated the hearts of the Maltese people, who have shown their solidarity with you during these past days.  I know for certain that you shall remain present in the hearts of our people.  You have expressed the wish to remain close to the people and to continue to serve God for as long as your health permits.  For all this, we thank you from our heart.
We admire the courage which you have always displayed in moments of difficulty, and the way in which you chose to suffer in silence for the good of the Church.  By  your dedication, dear father, you managed to bring joy to many families, many youth, many elderly and infirm people. You served as a bridge between man and God, a bridge which unites our people.   I wish you a long life, that we may continue to enjoy the fruits of your gift of wisdom and goodness.  While promising you our prayers, we thank you from our heart and ask you to impart upon us your blessing.
